Coventry Peace House has been going for a number of years as a refuge for Asylum Seekers and as an Education Trust supporting the local community with various projects.
The Cycle Centre has been open for 10 years and has now re-opened on Tuesdays between 10am and 2 pm following a closure during covid.
It focuses its energy on building donated bikes to encourage people to cycle by providing affordable bikes to the local community.
The bikes are restored and fully serviced by volunteers who benefit from social interaction. Jay, has volunteered since his parents died 6 months ago and has found volunteering has given him confidence to get out and mix with people.
Adrian, a supervisor said Jay has a lot of experience and John who also supervises the project said that Jay is a great mechanic and they are lucky to have him join them.
Adrian commented that they are also fortunate to have 6 more volunteers who are all skilled bike mechanics and they really benefit from having the help.
Adrian continued
“However, we do have volunteers who have never worked on bikes and we work with them to show them what to do. If you have your own bike and just need some advice we are happy to help and welcome everyone who may enjoy social interaction whilst doing something constructive”
If you are looking for a good value bike, prices range from £20 upwards for a child’s bike and £40 upwards for an adults bike.
