Clockwise hosts event with Money and Pensions Service & the Illegal Money Lending Team.

On Friday 13th Sep 2024, Clockwise hosted and in-branch event alongside the Money and Pensions Service & the Illegal Money Lending Team.

Members of the public could drop in to get financial advice and help, ask any questions about their pension & meet the Stop Loan Sharks team including Sid the Shark!

We were also joined by Leicester Community Advice and Law Centre. Alex from CALS was offering energy advice to anyone who wanted to talk.

We spoke to many Clockwise members throughout the day.

Clockwise member Angelina shared her experience of saving via the  Employee Savings Scheme. Angelina has been saving money every month directly from her salary and is now opening a Junior ISA to save for her grandkids. She was kind enough to discuss her membership in our slightly noisy branch!

Clockwise was thrilled to receive a certificate from the Illegal Money Lending Team confirming that Clockwise has been included in the Stop Loan Sharks Recognition Programme. This scheme is for organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support for the IMLT to raise awareness of the dangers of loan sharks in communities.

The team presented the Certificate to Paul Mattioli, the Chair of the Clockwise Board of Directors.

Thanks to the MAPS & Illegal Money Lending Team who made the event successful:
Money and Pensions Service

The team from MAPS “help people – particularly those most in need – to improve their financial wellbeing and build a better, more confident future. Working collaboratively across the UK, they make sure customers can access high-quality money and pensions guidance and debt advice throughout their lives, how and when they need it.” – they were available to answer any questions from members on:

Illegal Money Lending Team

The IMLT “investigates and prosecutes illegal money lenders while supporting those who have borrowed money from a loan shark. Illegal Money Lending Teams in Scotland and Wales ensure the entire UK is working to stop loan sharks.

Each team is comprised of specialist investigators and Liaise Officers who have previously worked for the police, trading standards, and debt advice services. Together the investigators and Liaise Officers work to prosecute illegal money lenders while supporting people who owe money to a loan shark.

The England IMLT works as Stop Loan Sharks within local communities, within education, and with partner agencies including the police. Since 2004, the England IMLT has supported over 31,100 people and written off over £91.2 million worth of illegal debt.”

If you missed this event, there are two webinars you can attend:
